Islamic Illumination

Islamic Illumination is called Tezhip/Tathhibis in Turkish which means to gild and is traditionally used in Ottoman empire. This art is used mainly for decorating masaajid and Quran copies. 

Handmade watercolor ahar paper is used for medium.  Arabic calligraphy has been written on ahar paper for more than 500 years. The paper is coated with multiple coats of corn starch and a sizing made from alum and egg whites. It will increase the longevity of paper for years.
